Fluoride Application

Fluoride Application

A quick, protective treatment that strengthens enamel against decay.

Overview

Fluoride treatment is a preventive dental procedure in which a concentrated form of fluoride, a naturally occurring mineral, is applied to the teeth as a varnish, gel, or foam. Fluoride strengthens tooth enamel, the hard outer layer of the tooth, and makes it more resistant to acids produced by bacteria in the mouth. It is widely used to reduce the risk of tooth decay in both children and adults.

Benefits of Fluoride Therapy

  • Helps prevent cavities and can reverse very early enamel damage
  • Reduces sensitivity in exposed tooth surfaces
  • Especially valuable for children, braces wearers, and patients with dry mouth
  • Safe, fast, and requires no drilling

After Your Treatment

Your dentist will give you specific instructions based on the product used. In general, avoid hard foods and hot drinks for a few hours afterward. Continue using a fluoride toothpaste at home for lasting protection.
