Professional removal of plaque and tartar buildup that brushing can't reach.
Scaling is a dental procedure that removes plaque and tartar (hardened plaque, also called calculus) from the surfaces of the teeth and from just below the gumline. Once tartar has formed, it cannot be removed by regular brushing or flossing. The procedure uses ultrasonic devices or hand instruments and is often accompanied by polishing. Scaling is a standard treatment for preventing and managing gum disease.
Mild sensitivity to hot and cold is common for a few days after scaling. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a desensitizing toothpaste if needed. Continue brushing twice a day and flossing daily to keep your teeth clean for longer.
